Shri Vasant Sathe was the President of the Committee from 2002 till he expired in September 2011. His contribution to the cause of the committee is immense. After retirement from active politics, he devoted all his energies to reactivate the committee which was engulfed in a financial crunch.
There was also a pressing need for erecting a building on the allotted plot, as there was threat of the plot being taken back by the government due to non-construction in the prescribed time. The situation became grave when the plot was encroached by squatters and it became difficult to evict them.
However, with herculean efforts by the President and the General Secretaries Shri VN Patil and Col. Mohan Kaktikar (Retd.), the committee was able to get the plot vacated and raise a beautiful building named after Shivaji Maharaj as the Chhatrapati Shivaji Bhawan.
