Shri Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj (Circa 1630–1680) was a legendary leader and ruler who was much ahead of his time. A visionary who changed the course of Indian history by challenging foreign domination and creating a vibrant society from a subjugated and impoverished population.
A brave and genuinely secular ruler, he respected women and cared for the downtrodden and farmers. Shivaji Maharaj was a fearless leader who effectively used guerrilla warfare against superior enemy forces with the support of local communities, knowledge of terrain, mobility and surprise.
He transformed his people into a highly motivated military force and laid the foundation of Maratha power across the Indian subcontinent. His strategic vision, courage and determination made him one of the most influential leaders in Indian history.
